Rent

Can I afford the rent? Does my bursary or sponsorship cover the entire semester’s rental period? Please check with sponsor the limit of your funding for residence.

Lease Agreement

Each student will be required to sign a lease agreement with the respective Accommodation Service Provider (landlord) which is a binding legal contract for the duration of the stay once they have decided to book and reserve a room. The student must ensure that he or she receives a copy of the lease agreement.

Deposit

NSFAS funded students are not required to pay any upfront fees to any of the Accredited Off Campus Service Providers such as the refundable breakage deposit (R500) and administrative fee (R500). 
 
The above mentioned amounts will be debited to your student account. Please note that you might be responsible to pay the R500 breakage fee should NSFAS not cover the full amount. 
 
Bursary students administered by Financial Aid, the same will apply.
 
Private bursary students and cash paying students must settle the refundable breakage fee of R2000 when applying for small properties in Summerstrand/Humewood/Central/North End, etc. areas.
 

Registration

Each student must ensure that they register for the residence after he or she has registered academically at the University

Confirmation of Residence Registration

This is a confirmation letter advising the Accommodation Service Provider that the student has been registered for the residence as per the rental invoice.
